The Kreismedienzentrum Elbe-Elster
The Media Centre Elbe-Elster, which exists in its present form since 1995, includes the Kreisbildstelle, Kreisfahrbibliothek, Kreisergänzungsbibliothek and Heimatkundliche Bibliothek. In April 2004 the Media Centre moved to its present location in the light and user-friendly rooms of the culture and communication center at the Anhalter Straße 7 in Herzberg/Elster. The Media Centre is an accredited facility for training media and information services specialists.
Kreisbildstelle
The main branch of the Kreisbildstelle is located in Herzberg, an additional branch in Finsterwalde. At the Tuchmacher Straße 22 in Finsterwalde teachers and students can take advantage of the media offers there.
The mission of the Kreisbildstelle is to offer media for pedagogical use and also to supply the necessary technical equipment. Through special training, instructors can use their knowledge to make media contributions in the field for distribution.
Kreisfahrbibliothek
The Kreisfahrbibliothek includes two busses that drive through 145 locations in the district Elbe-Elster. Ca 21.000 visitors and 80.000 loans are recorded every year. The library busses make an important contribution to reading promotion programs with suitable media offers, literary events as well as through the corporation with schools and kindergartens.
Users can borrow digital media such as books, journals, audiobooks, music and videos on the Internet – 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The use of these media is similar to checking out physical media with a specific loan period. Returning materials occurs automatically.
Kreisergänzungsbibliothek
The Kreisergänzungsbibliothek sends media boxes to the libraries in the district. It also supports the libraries, moniters the loans in the district and coordinates the cooperation in the library system. The Kreisergänzungsbibliothek works together with the libraries and the Landesfachstelle für Archive und öffentliche Bibliotheken.
Heimatkundliche Bibliothek
The Heimatkundliche Bibliothek records literature having regional and historical importance in the database catalog and thus makes it available for private and scientific use.
